Estate story
Founded in 1883 in the village of Lannepax, Maison Jean Cavé has more than 140 years of history in the heart of Armagnac. The house began when Jean Cavé, already a local winegrower, established himself as a distiller and éleveur alongside his wife and two sons.
Over the following century, four generations of the Cavé family refined the house’s approach to distillation, maturation, and the careful preservation of vintage Armagnac. This continuity allowed Jean Cavé to build an extraordinary library of old eaux-de-vie spanning generations, with vintages reaching deep into the house’s history.
Today, Jean Cavé continues to draw on the knowledge of Henri Cavé, the fourth generation of the family, maintaining a direct connection to the traditions established by his ancestors. That legacy is perhaps best represented by the remarkable depth of Armagnac preserved within its cellars.
Few Armagnac houses possess such an extensive historical inventory. Alongside an extraordinary collection of old vintages, Jean Cavé is home to one of the largest paradise rooms in Gascony, where precious Armagnacs rest in glass demijohns, some dating back more than a century. Together, they form a remarkable liquid archive of generations of Armagnac history.
